57-year-old Apolonio Arras died after a furnace exploded at the Arcelor Mittal plant.
It happened just before three this morning at the plant formally known as Border Steel Company in Vinton. El Paso County Sheriff's investigators say Arras was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but died a few hours later from his injuries.
He leaves behind his wife and two children as well as four grandchildren. His family says he had only been working at the plant for about three years. They described him as a man devoted to his faith and family. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
