EL PASO- It might seem early, but the holidays are just around the corner. That might be good news for job seekers.
It's just over 70 days until Christmas. Let the shopping begin. The Best Buy on Sunland Park is preparing.
"For the holiday season, we want to make sure we have enough coverage and enough employees to really help out the customers," says store supervisor Joshua Woofert.
So they're looking for seasonal help.
"I think we're going to hire a few more this year than last year," Woofert says.
Enter Tim Martin, a 22 year-old father of one, hired just for the holidays.
"It really helps out to have extra income that I wasn't planning on having but now I have," says Martin.
He works with cell phones, and his contract runs until January.
But it's not just Best Buy that's hiring. Stores all over El Paso are filling employee ranks, to help them through their busiest time of the year.
Workforce Solutions of El Paso say employers hired 1,800 people during the holidays last year.
More than 1,000 were retail positions. But these jobs are temporary. So they're either let or hired.
Martin says he hopes to get hired. He wants the extra cash for his new baby who turns six months old around Halloween.
