AUSTIN - Police are looking for a possible second shooter on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
Police say the gunman who opened fire inside the campus library has shot and killed himself.
A man with an automatic weapon opened fire on the sixth floor of the Perry-Castaneda library just as classes were beginning this morning.
The university sent a text to students telling them what was going on.
But inside classrooms, students did not get the alert because their phones were turned off. It was a professor who told them to leave out the back door.
One student said there was definitely a police presence when he walked out of the building.
"Cops.. the guy said walk this way .. please don't go in this direction. So, I said, 'Wow.. what's going on?' So then I turned my phone on and figured out what's going on. Wow, it's kinda scary."
Other students who were in nearby classroom buildings or dorms were told to remain inside.
