Middle School Principal Killed By Train

The news, hard to imagine.

38 year-old Stephanie Segura, Principal at Tornillo Middle School is dead after the truck she was in was hit by a train.

Sheriff's Deputies on the scene say that Segura was stopped at railroad tracks in Tornillo, Thursday afternoon.

A train headed eastbound cleared the intersection but the crossing guards didn't go back up. Even so, Sheriff's Deputies say Segura went around the crossing arms and on to the tracks.

The crossing arms were down because what Segura likely didn't see was that an Amtrack passenger train was coming from the opposite direction.

That she train, she couldn't avoid. Segura died instantly.

Segura had only been principal at Tornillo Middle for 5 weeks.
