The New Mexico State Cross Country team hosts its annual Kachina Classic, Saturday Sept. 18, at the New Mexico State University Golf Course.
The Kachina Classic began in 1987 and has been run in Las Cruces every year since, except for 1991.
NM State will be going up against UNM, UTEP, and El Paso Community College (EPCC). The Lobo men are ranked 14th nationally while the women are 18th in the nation. As for UTEP, the women are 19th nationally, while the men are ranked 11th in the Mountain Region, one spot behind NM State.
"It's always nice to have an opportunity to run at home," head coach Orin Richburg said. "It gives us a chance to see all of our kids in action."
The Aggie women are ranked ninth in the latest Mountain Region U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, while the men are tenth in the same poll.
"I expect are men to finish really well and our women to compete for the top spot as well," assistant coach Paul Harkins said.
All the action begins Saturday at 8:30 a.m. (MT) with the men's 8K race and will be followed by the women's 5K race beginning at 9:15 a.m. (MT).
