PYONGYANG- Former President Jimmy Carter is escorting a man home from North Korea today, after negotiating his release from a North Korean prison.
31-year old Aijalon Mahli Gomes had been imprisoned for seven months.
North Korea had charged Gomes with trespassing and committing a "hostile act." He was sentenced to eight years hard labor and was given a large fine.
Carter was able to negotiate Gomes' release after North Korean leader Kim Jong Il allowed him to be pardoned.
The former president and the former inmate are scheduled to arrive in Boston today.
