EL PASO -- The University of Texas at El Paso has launched an investigation after a bullet hit a building on its campus Saturday evening.
UTEP Police believe the bullet was fired during a shootout just across the border in Juarez.
UTEP administrators say the bullet went through a glass panel in the door of Bell Hall and lodged in an office doorframe.
“This appears to be the only stray bullet to have struck the campus, and there is no evidence to suggest that UTEP was specifically targeted,” said UTEP President Diana Natalicio in a statement that she issued Sunday.
Natalicio went on to say that the university will be working with law enforcement officials and other government agencies to address further security precautions.
