Friday, August 13: The NMSU Football team was not that experienced on the offensive side of the ball last year, but that all changes this season. Senior running back Seth Smith is coming off a season where he ran for over 1,000 yards, so he's back, alongside junior college transfer Kenny "The Burner" Turner, who brings speed to Smith's power. Even quarterback Jeff Fleming has noticed the pair turning heads at practice. "Seth had a great year last year, did a good job finding holes and making people miss. We have some other guys at running back who are going to do a really good job, like Kenny Turner who is going to help us out, we're excited about the position, we have guys who are big playmakers, and having them on the field is only going to help us win."
NMSU Head Coach DeWayne Walker expects big things from the running game, and Smith said he is willing to cooperate, especially since they are much more comfortable this season under Walker, his second year leading the program. "First offseason, we were struggling to find out what coach Walker wanted, and this year we have the understanding and are rolling way faster, and way smoother, so the expectations of what he wants we already know."
