Border security is said to be the subject of a letter from Texas Governor Rick Perry to President Obama.
The president visited the Lone Star State Monday.
He was greeted at the Austin airport by Governor Perry.
The governor handed the president a letter urging him to place an extra 1,000 national guard troops on the border with Mexico.
Perry says the government needs to act now to strengthen border security.
