UTEP senior running back Donald Buckram has been voted to the preseason All-Conference USA team for football, as selected by the league's 12 head coaches.
The Miners will begin fall drills on Aug. 5 and open the season at home versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sept. 4.
Buckram is the nation's second-leading returning receiver for the 2010 season behind Pittsburgh's Dion Lewis (138.4 ypg). Last year Buckram ran for 1,594 yards, an average of 132.8 per game, to break a UTEP single-season record that had stood for over 60 years. He was one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, presented to the nation's top running back.
Buckram has 2,082 career rushing yards, giving him an outside shot at surpassing John Harvey (3,576 yards) as UTEP's all-time leader this fall.
A 5-10, 195-pound Copperas Cove native, Buckram had eight 100-yard games and three 200-yard games last season. He ranked third nationally in scoring (10.5 ppg), fourth in rushing yards per game and 11th in all-purpose yards per game (170.6), joining Stanford's Toby Gerhart as the only FBS players to rush for 200+ yards three times in 2009.
