Volunteers continued a cleanup effort today in Sparks after resident become fed up with illegal dumping in the area.
Volunteers collected close to 125 tons of trash and around 1,000 tires. Last year they collected 250 tons of trash and 3,000 tires.
The organization 'Keep El Paso Beautiful' invested over $70,000 in the project.
They say illegal dumping is not only a safety hazard and an eyesore but it can also lead to criminal activity because people assume those areas have been abandoned.
The next cleanup is scheduled for September 18th and the public is welcome to participate.
