Another metal plant, this one in Westway, is emitting pollution, and people in the area are tired of it. Arcelor Mittal, a steel mill, is now asking the TECQ for an air quality permit, that will allow them to legally emit it. So the community met today, in hopes that some middle ground can be met.
"This will be the third meeting I've attended, and unfortunately we still have to do it for the third time," said Gustavo Vasquez. "But hopefully this will be the last time, where they do take that responsibility and they work with the community"
"I think what we want as a community is accuracy. We want to know what's going into our air, what we're breathing in and out everyday, and how that effects us," said Joe Moody.
Arecelor Mittal, has just taken over the steel mill from Border Steel. The community group said that Border Steel had promised to update the mill, but then it was sold.
