EL PASO -- People living in far East El Paso are concerned after an arsonist over the weekend burned two homes that were under construction. The weekend fires spread to several nearby homes, one of which a family was moving into.
There have been six homes under construction that have been burned down since the beginning year in far East El Paso. There is no word on whether these latest fires are connected to the others.
A string of suspicious fires in El Paso goes back months. Investigators say a serial arsonist is targeting vacant homes and homes under construction - 12 in all the past six months.
Several of the homes that have been destroyed are near the "Points Area" in far East El Paso. Houses there are going up fast, but before some of the home builders are even finished, someone is reducing them to ash. And now people who live in the area are fearing for their safety.
"It's actually kind of scary cause I actually have a 3-month-old baby and I don't want anything happening to her or any of my family," said Far East El Paso resident Dillon Miranda.
We spoke to several neighbors but none of them wanted to talk on camera. They're afraid the person responsible for the fires will target their house if they see it on the news.
