Former Texas Governor Dolph Briscoe has passed away at the age of 87.
WFAA in Dallas says Briscoe had been in poor health for some time and had returned home only recently.
The two term democrat was praised for his integrity and kept a campaign pledge of no new taxes.
Briscoe served as governor from 1972 to 1978.
Republican Senator John Cornyn said of Briscoe, "Our state flourished during his tenure and he set the standard by which today’s elected officials in Texas are judged."
