EL PASO, TX - All I want is for people to not see him as a hero, because that, he was not. He was not a good father, he was not a good man. He did not save my daughter, and to me, he killed my other daughter," Alicia Mireles Martinez said.
Martinez blames her dead boyfriend, Jerry Villar Jr. for her six-year old daughters death. Villar and Martinez's daughter died in an East El Paso apartment fire a week and a half ago, and Martinez says Villar Jr. is to blame. Now Jerry Villar Sr. is left defending his son's honor.
"I want to speak on behalf of my son, that he was a great person, a loving person, a loving father to those little kids even though they weren't his. He was a great man, a great person," Jerry Villar Sr. said.
"I woke up when I heard the alarm. It was very smokey," Martinez said, "from what I've gathered from what my daughter told me, he took the batteries from the fire detector."
Villar Sr. refused to say anything negative about Martinez, saying he didn't want to stoop to her level, but he says Martinez's story doesn't add up.
"At first she said she was waken by the fire alarm, then later on she says he took the batteries out. So she's contradicting herself."
Villar Sr. says his son loved life, and loved Martinez's kids. He says he's in shock that she could be saying those things about his son, and he wants people to know the fire department investigation will set the truth straight.
"We should at least have him rest in peace, instead of trashing his name and stepping all over his grave."
