DONA ANA COUNTY -- A 10-month-old boy drowned in a paint bucket being used by his mother to wash clothes at her home on the East Mesa, according to Dona Ana County Sheriff's Investigators.
The 19-year-old mother was washing clothes at her home on the 6300 block of MacArthur Road when she left the room for three minutes.
When she returned investigators say she found the child face down in the five gallon bucket that was filled with water and laundry detergent.
The mother called 911 while her parents tired to perform CPR. The case is still under investigation by the Sheriff's Department.
According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 275 children have drowned in buckets since 1984.
