EL PASO--- Winds have caused a major power outage in Northeast El Paso Saturday evening, affecting thousands of customers, said El Paso Electric spokesman Henry Quintana.
The problem started at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, after a transformer blew out.
The outage is affecting roughly 2,000 customers throughout the area.
Workers are now fixing the transformer, and hope to have the outage resolved by 9:30 p.m.
UPDATE: 10:30 p.m.
Power is nearly fully restored to Northeast El Paso.
Utility crews say high winds knocked out a transformer and downed some wires.
Only a few customers remain without power.
