A father's anguish filled an El Paso courtroom today. Robert Talamantes tried to hold back anger when he faced the man who killed his daughter.
A judge formally sentenced Fort Bliss soldier Edison Bayas to 15 years in prison after Bayas admitted killing Valerie Talamantes while driving drunk. Bayas hung his head as Robert Talamantes expressed his grief.
"As a father, you dream of walking your daughter down the aisle and giving her away to the man she loves. The only memory I have, and it was the hardest thing I had to do, was kiss my daughter good bye and close the coffin," said Talamantes.
The army is in the process of officially dismissing Bayas.
