EL PASO- In a little more than two weeks you'll be able to get your hands on jewelry of all kinds at a popular El Paso restaurant.
The Center Against Family Violence is holding a fundraiser at Ardovino's Desert Crossing called "Lend Us Your Ear". The event aims to raise awareness about domestic violence and also raise much-needed funds.
"We have collected anywhere from vintage jewelry to finer jewelry, costume jewelry, all across the board and we have use for every piece. We're very excited," says Karla Frausto.
"Lend Us Your Ear" organizers have 300 pieces of jewelry and counting on hand for their fundraiser at Ardovino's Desert Crossing.
The Center Against Family Violence is a non-profit organization that helps out thousands of people in our area. "We are El Paso’s only comprehensive provider of domestic violence services, not only through El Paso county but for Hudspeth and Culverson counties as well," says Stephanie Karr.
The event is meant to educate the public as well as giving participants the chance to shop, have appetizers and enjoy their signature drink, the "Hopetini".
"There are going to be three different sections. There's going to be the silent auction section," says Selena Solis, Co-Chair of the event.
"We have lovely pieces that are donated by different vendors in El Paso, different artists from different locations, not necessarily only from El Paso," says Karla.
Then there's also the jewelry emporium. "The emporium is huge; essentially a store where we display a lot of different types of jewelry and people can come in. It's priced very well," says Karla.
The third section is called my mother's jewelry, which features fine and vintage jewelry. "It featured eight daughters who donated pieces of their mothers and we have photographs of their mother's, classic photographs with a card," says Karla.
At the event, you can also buy a mystery bag for $5 where you'll find a few pieces of jewelry and if you're lucky you'll also get a gift certificate to a restaurant, a salon or a store in town. With two weeks to go, organizers are asking for help so they can continue assisting families in the Borderland who have nowhere else to turn in their time of need.
"We are asking for sponsorships. They can be in the form of monetary donation. It can be jewelry. It can be, if somebody wants to help with the event," Karla.
Lend Us Your Ear takes place at Ardovino's Desert Crossing on October 13th, a Thursday. It'll be held from 5:30 - 8:00 p-m. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. For ticket information and to find out more about the event, go to http://www.cafv.org/luye
