Oil Rig Fire in the Gulf of Mexico

VERMILION BAY, LA - The US Coast Guard has confirmed that an oil rig located 80 miles south of Vermilion Bay is on fire.  It happened around 9 a.m. this morning.

The rig is owned by Mariner Energy and thirteen people were working during the time of the explosion.  All of the workers have been accounted for and one is injured. The extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

It is currently unknown at this time whether there is a leak due to the explosion.

Vermilion Bay is west of the Deepwater Horizon explosion in April.
