Officer Injured, Suspect Shot During Domestic Battery Call

LAS CRUCES- Police are investigating an early-morning assault on an officer that resulted in a cut to the officer’s forehead and the suspect being shot.

Villarreal, 39, was released from the hospital and will be placed on paid administrative leave which is standard operating procedure for such an incident.

Early Friday morning, Police were called to a domestic-related battery at an apartment. Police were told a woman was being beaten by 21-year-old Isaac Gutierrez. When officers located Gutierrez, he ran away. Then, Gutierrez stuck an officer, causing a deep cut on his forehead. The officer shot at Gutierrez

Gutierrez is in police custody and charges against him are pending.

Officer Edward Villarreal, a nine year veteran of the Las Cruces Police Department, was transported to Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces where he received 17 stitches to his forehead. Gutierrez was taken to Mountain View Regional for a superficial grazing wound to his abdomen. Gutierrez has already been released from the hospital and is police custody.

to bad that SOB did not get kill by that officer. Police officers should go to the shooting range more often. They are not very good at this. Training, training, training. That is what it takes
