LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Dozens of couples renewed their vows during a Wedding Anniversary Mass in Las Cruces at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Heart of Mary .
Couples who have been married for six weeks to 60 years tied the knot again, and used the mass as an opportunity to reflect on the life they've spent with their significant other.
Imelda Torres has been married to her husband Octavio for 27 years. It wasn't always smooth sailing as a young couple, but they credit their ability to communicate for helping them work through problems.
"There are difficult times, but this is something young people need to understand not all things are easy," Torres said.
Nationally approximately 40 percent of marriages end in divorce according to data compiled by Divorce Rate.
Virginia Check has been happily married for 60 years. She said the secret to a happy marriage is simple.
