JUAREZ, Mexico - An attempted jailbreak in Cereso Prison Monday night has left at least 8 people dead, and 4 others injured.
According to El Diario, gunshots were fired inside the prison just before 10 p.m. Monday. The Mexican newspaper is reporting that in an attempted escape, at least 25 inmates exchanged continuous gunfire with federal agents and Mexican soldiers for close to an hour.
A spokesman for the jail denied that it was an attempted jailbreak, and says the riot started as a fight between two rival groups inside the jail.
