Las Cruces Police arrested two men suspected of armed robbery late on Sunday evening near Young Park.

Javier Valenzuela and Armando Rodriguez, both 29, are charged with on third-degree felony count of robbery. Valenzuela was also charged with possession of marijuana.

Detectives learned that around 10 p.m. on Sunday two teenage boys were walking along Walnut street near Young park when they were approached by Valenzuela and Rodriguez  with a hand gun. Valenzuela and Rodriguez ordered the boys to the ground and demanded they hand over their valuables.

The teens then handed over two cell phones, a small speaker, and headphones on the ground, which were then retrieved by both suspects. Valenzuela and Rodriguez then fled toward Young Park. No injuries were reported.

Within just a few minutes, police located Valenzuela and Rodriguez in Young Park based on the description given by the teenage boys. Police also located the handgun Valenzuela was believed to have used to commite the robbery.

Valenzuela and Rodriguez were booked into the Dona Ana Detention Center with bonds set at $10,000 each.
