The El Paso Chihuahuas have been the mascot for El Paso's triple-A team for exactly twenty-four hours and they continue to dominate the talk around town, on Texas Monthly, Deadspin,  throughout social media sites and even got a mention on ESPN's Around the Horn on Wednesday afternoon.

The welcoming wagon from around the baseball circuit began early,  with the San Diego Padres welcoming the Chihuahuas to the league:

The newly announced "Voice" of the El Paso Chihuahuas, Tim Hagerty made this twitter announcement via twitter earlier this afternoon:

Some reaction was funny:

And ESPN's  Around the Horn briefly covered the topic on Wednesday's show:

Despite the mixed reaction around town, General Manager Brad Taylor says that sales at the team store have been non-stop all day long and MiLB is reporting that no other team has had higher activity on their site. He reports increased interest in ticket sales, despite the fact that he admits two season ticket holders did request refunds after the reveal.

Taylor says MountainStar Sports has no intention of changing or altering the Chihuahua logo in any way, so fans can feel reassured when buying team merchandise that the Chihuahua is here to stay.

Chihuahuas suck! You could have picked a better telemarketer! Your catering to wetbacks across the border!

You obviously have never owned a chihuahua nor should you... Have you ever been across the border?Your brain is wet...people across the border are proud Mexicans. Chihuahuas are smart and very brave ...on either side of a chain link fence they will stand their ground. There will be plenty of fans attending the games from both sides of the border.
