The Ysleta Independent School District is preparing to examine the results of a population study it commissioned amid declining enrollment.

The district's board of trustees will discuss the results of the study, which also looked at the use of district facilities, at a special meeting Monday evening.

YISD serves approximately 43,000 students, but is expected to lose 300-400 in the coming school year.

In February, then-Interim Superintendent Anna Perez told NewsChannel 9 younger families simply aren't moving into the older homes in the YISD area, leading to a loss of students and the funding that comes along with them.

"As families grow older and they no longer have young children, then of course we would not have the population and we are landlocked, so therefore we don't have any new housing," Perez said.

Monday's meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at YISD headquarters.
