The World Health Organization says the health of the world's population has improved, but there is more work to be done.

The WHO issued its annual report showing the gap between the richest and poorest countries in terms of health care is narrowing, but it remains far too high. A major gap remains between rich and poor countries in terms of mortality rates.

"Child mortality reduced dramatically in the bottom countries by 39 percent, but it is sill 21 times higher than in the top countries," said Dr. Ties Borma of the World Health Organization.

Boerma says health expenditures per person are 40 times higher in the top countries compared to the bottom countries.
