Woman severely burned at Lower Valley bakery
EL PASO — A 23-year-old woman is recovering Sunday after suffering second degree burns. Investigators said a faulty oven at a bakery in the lower valley caused the burns.
It happened at La Poblana on Giles Road and Adobe Drive at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
The spokesperson for the El Paso Fire Department said she was turning on the oven and a flash fire burned 18 percent of her body, mostly on her face and arms.
An ambulance took her to Del Sol Medical Center.
Investigators closed the bakery after the Health Department and Texas Gas cited it for having defective equipment.
It will remain closed until the equipment is replaced.
