El Paso- One woman is in fear of her life after she received death threats online. Specifically, the message threatened to take her into Juarez and kill her.
"Going home, going to work, it's been adversely affected," Mary said. For fear of her safety, she asked that we not use her real name.
"I received death threats telling me they are going to beat me up and take me to Juarez, Mexico," she said.
In February of last year, Mary posted a negative review for a business on 'Yahoo Local'. When she went to delete her account in mid-June, she found this threat.
"Seriously, I'm going to drive your broken body to Juarez and feed you to my uncles lion," one line of the message said.
Obviously afraid, Mary called the police and also tried to file a report of abuse with Yahoo. The Website did respond to her abuse report by requesting the exact web address on the complaint. She decided to go through police instead.
"I look around now," Mary said. "I'm hesitant to even leave to go to the grocery store."
On top of the online threats, she has also received mysterious phone calls. She picks up, but no one answers on the other line. But these threats are traceable. Investigators told her they will subpoena the IP address, or the unique identification for that Internet user. Still, Mary changed her appearance and her lifestyle because the threats are so violent.
"What's a shame is that it's not taken seriously," Mary said.
