BERINO - A Berino, New Mexico woman was killed overnight, after her home caught on fire.
Gloria Machuca's cousin shot video of the fire with her cell phone while her brother tried to save the woman trapped inside.
"My brother kicked the door open and the flames pushed him out." She and her family live across the street and did all they could but the flames had fully engulfed the house.
"We were having a family gathering and we saw the flames coming out of the roof. We ran over there to the house and tried to help the lady. We started screaming her name and nobody answered."
Then Gloria's daughter called 911. "Once my uncle kicked the door open then that's when i started to get scared cus i saw a lot of flames and fire coming out."
The police and firefighters arrived shortly after Priscilla called. "I saw them try to put the flames out but it was just too much..they couldn't."
The Machuca family had known the woman for years. "She was a sweet and nice person..she lived there for more than eight years...she used to go to church every Sunday." Gloria says her neighbor's death is shocking and a reminder to all to be more careful. " With whatever you leave on the store or not to try to leave your chimney on.”
Tonight the house is just a skeleton of ash. Yellow tape is still lining the property.
We do not have the deceased woman's name..as investigators need to identify her and notify the family.
