WOMAN ARRESTED FOR DWI  4 MONTH OLD & 2 YEAR OLD IN CAR

El Paso -- On Tuesday night 05-25-10 at about 8:55 pm, Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the area of the 12500 block of Montana near EPCSO HQ in reference a female exposing herself & possibly intoxicated. Deputies arrived and observed a tan vehicle with both driver & passenger car doors open pulled over on the side of the roadway just off of Montana Ave. Deputies made contact with the female driver who outside of the vehicle near the passenger side of the car. Deputies immediately noticed the female was highly intoxicated as they smelled a strong odor of alcohol emitting form her person as well as the interior of the vehicle. There was no other adult accompanying the woman & it was apparent she was the driver of the vehicle. The keys were still in the ignition & it is was later learned the woman had pulled over to urinate on the side of the roadway. As Deputies tried to talk to the woman, she could not be understood due to her level of intoxication, she could not even provide an address or phone number.

As Deputies checked the interior of the vehicle, they located two small children - 4 month & 2 year-old girls. Both of the children were improperly secured as the 4 month-old was located lying on the front passenger seat where the door was opened & the 2 year-old old was standing on the rear passenger seats of the vehicle. El Paso FD who responded to the scene to check on the well being of the occupants changed the dirty diaper of the 4 month old baby girl.

The woman was identified as LYNN MARTELL (22 ) of the 3000 block of Hercules El Paso, TX. She was arrested for DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED W/ CHILD UNDER 15 YEARS OF AGE & 2 COUNTS OF ABANDONING / ENDANGERING A CHILD – CRIMINAL NEGLIGENCE. She remains at the El Paso County Detention Facility.

The children were turned over to a responsible party (family member). Sheriff’s investigators are also referring the case to Child Protective Services (CPS).
