Winning horse allegedly linked to Zetas cartel auctioned off
Oklahoma City, OK (NBC) — A prize winning quarter horse that was tied to a Zetas drug cartel money laundering operation has been sold.
Mr. Piloto, an All American Futurity winner at Ruidoso Downs was sold at a government auction last Friday for just $85,000.
The horse won a $968,000 purse in the 2010 race, and was one of about 300 horses that were bought by and for members of the Los Zetas drug cartel.
Some say the race was fixed, which is why he may have sold for so little. One other horse seized in the raid sold for almost $2 million dollars at the same auction.
