EL PASO — Out with the old, in with the new.
A central El Paso family has a window of opportunity worth singing about.
"We never thought we would've had this," Victoria Barrios said.
Baltazar and Victoria Barrios found themselves in the right frame of mind as winners of a contest held by "Window World" to find someone in the Borderland deserving of new windows for their home.
The couple's daughter, Victoria, nominated them for the giveaway describing their old windows as "a real pane."
"It was really, really hard to open it. That window over there, I had to hold it open with a stick because it wouldn't stay open," said Baltazar Barrios.
But the day finally arrived to kiss this glass goodbye.
"It's exciting. I love it. I love to see the reaction and the people are happy and everything's going in great and it couldn't be better," said Window World Owner Kevin Tubbs.
Window World Owner Kevin Tubbs says he chose this couple, married nearly 50 years, out of hundreds of submissions because of their touching story.
"The father of the family here, the patriarch, has been an amazing man, done so many things and done so much to always give and give and give to his family without ever really thinking about himself," Tubbs said. "I have a large family myself and it touched me personally and it was a very special thing to try and give back to a man like that."
Baltazar, a father of nine and grandfather of 25 made his living as a factory worker before retiring on a fixed income.
This 1930s home featured a hodge-podge of aluminum and wood windows before Tubbs gifted the couple with... well, you know how the slogan goes...
"Well, Window World...we don't just stand behind our windows, we stand on them. If I had one here I'd take it out and stand on it for you," exclaimed Tubbs.
"There are no words to describe how grateful we are for all you're doing for us," said the appreciative couple.
Tubbs says "Window World" will hold another competition in the fall.
