Wilson awarded "Spirit of Amigo" award
EL PASO, TEXAS (KTSM) — Her career spotted with controversy and accomplishments, El Paso's outgoing city manager was honored as the city's best 'friend' Thursday.
Joyce Wilson accepted the Destination El Paso's 'Spirit of Amigo' award, which honors those who promote El Paso in a positive way.
Wilson helped rally voters behind the passing of the 2012 Quality of Life bonds.
"I'm really touched and it's a very special award. I'm really happy that all of my long-time colleagues and friends were here," said Wilson.
While on stage, Wilson acknowledged her time here hasn't always been so positive.
She came under fire for the demolition of City Hall for the baseball stadium, and the several e-mails she sent calling some council members and El Pasoans who opposed the ballpark "crazies".
