Will You Help?

EL PASO - During the holidays there are a lot of families out there who could use help. Organizations like the Salvation Army usually meet that need, but what happens when they can't?

Bells ringing, that sound is how you know the holidays are fast approaching. Starting Monday Salvation Army volunteers will be out with the famous Christmas kettles and bells.

"I know times are tight right now, but I'd love for folks to dig deep because we have a number of folks here in the building as far as the family shelter goes, because we are in crisis mode which I have mentioned before," John Martin said.

Martin, the Salvation Army Director, says it's crisis mode because food on the donation shelves is scarce, and there are a lot of families in need. This year there are 900 families who could use a food box from the Salvation Army, and with about two weeks to go until Thanksgiving there's no way the boxes will be complete without your help.

"Texas Vs. The Nation football game would give us 500 turkeys every year for the purposes of the food boxes. We don't have that this year, so we're going to have to do our professional begging at best so we can get the turkeys in that we need," Martin said.

To collect the other items for the food boxes the Salvation Army is relying on kids. We're told the El Paso Independent School District is doing a food drive to help fill the boxes.

"For those of you who have children with in the school district, you still have a few days to get those canned goods in there. It's those items that are donated by kids that go into the Christmas food boxes each and every year," he said.

I am not super wealthy, but I believe that helping others especially during the holidays is the right thing to do. Do unto others as you would have them done unto you. The way the economy is going, who knows one of these days we could be on the other end. What ever you can help with, believe me the God will bless you in return 100 fold when you least expect and need it the most. Give with a happy heart expecting nothing in return. God Bless!

Thank you Chickenmilk. Good to know. What do you recommend?

Chicken this isn't about what you hate. It's about what must be done to help the needy. Are you going to pick up all the food and distribute it? I thought not. Count me in. I'll be making time to pick up some canned goods and learning how to provide a turkey today. Thanks for this article Anthony, it reminded me to slow down and help.

It doesnot matter who give charity to, all of the poor and disadvantaged need our help.

The Salvation Army has received hundreds of millions of dollars during the years of George W. Bush's presidential administration, during
which time the nonprofit has also subjected its employees to a maximally bigoted Christian religious loyalty oath that Salvation Army
employees must sign or else be fired from their jobs. Support the Salvation Army and you support bigotry, discrimination, and hatred of social minorities.

Obviously, The Salvation Army is a faith-based organization. Thus, the problem is??

This is a Christian orgaization and they have every right to stand up for their beliefs. If it were any other type of religious affiliation, everyone would stand up and cheer. But because they are Christians, they are attacked...as usual. This organization strives to help any and all persons in need. It is always the people who sit on their duffs and do nothing that critize those who make an effort in creating positive change in the world.
