Less than a week since an El Paso man was stabbed outside of a central gas station, his wife is speaking out.

Last Sunday night Gerardo Sanchez was stabbed while standing next to his step-daughter, and the suspect police say was already a wanted man.
El Paso police say 29-year-old Daniel Chavez approached Sanchez while he was attempting to rent a movie from a red box outside of a Circle K gas station.
By the time Yvette arrived to the gas station, Sanchez had already been transported to University Medical Center.

Thankfully, he survived the attack.
"I leaned over and I just started crying. I was crying and I remember him telling me it could have been worse. I was like, that's not the point. I could have lost you,” said Yvette Portillo.
Police say two weeks earlier, Daniel Chavez also got into a fight with 55-year-old Jesus Frescas Junior outside Rod's Sports Lounge.
Investigators say Chavez pushed Jesus to the ground, killing him.
Yvette Portillo says it's unfortunate the suspect was still on the streets and able to attack her husband.
"I don't see how being at the red box could be so dangerous for a family to go to. It just hurt me,” said Portillo.

Portillo says her husband Gerardo is a family man who works hard to support his family as a truck driver.
"That night, it was just a family day, you know we were there. We had barely bought chicken for the kids. We were going to watch movies and that's the things we do. We try to take them out. We try to do things with them. He doesn't get much time at home,” said Portillo.
Portillo says while her husband is recovering, he is unable to help provide for their family.
"How am I going to do it next month with our rent, with all of our bills? How am i going to do it with the food?,” asked Portillo.
The family is in the process of setting up a fundraiser to help with expenses.
