NC9 spoke with the wife of the man killed at the Casa Barranca apartment complex in west El Paso. She says U.S. Marshals shot and killed her husband in front of her daughter.

It happened around 2 Wednesday afternoon. U.S. Marshals were executing two felony warrants out of Las Cruces. His wife says her husband planned on turning himself in Wednesday.

The FBI says the man assaulted one of the Marshals executing the search warrant.

Law enforcement vehicles filled the parking lot of the Casa Barranca apartment complex in response to the shooting. U.S. Marshals, El Paso Police and Sheriff's officials were at the scene.

Wow, I hope the U.S. Marshals are being totally upfront about what happened. Seems to me that they rushed in to make this arrest during a time & place that was not safe for anyone involved. It is very fortunate that as those bullets were being fired that innocent bystanders or apartment occupants were not hit. I would hope that a complete investigation of the decisions made by the marshals involved is made & that appropriate changes are made as to how to handle similar situations in the future.
