Temperatures have been very warm over the past several weeks. Last Sunday, the temperature reached 90 degrees at the El Paso International Airport, smashing the old record high which had stood for over 100 years. But, just as people enjoy the warmer temperatures, bugs also have become more active in the higher heat. Typically, in the cold winter months, bugs are dormant. Warmer temperatures earlier in the season have given bugs a head start on reproducing, meaning experts anticipate higher than normal amounts of bugs though the summer. Orkin Pest Control officials say that they have fielded a 40% spike in calls already this spring. Most calls are for roaches and ants, but as the summer progresses, more of those calls may be for scorpions.
