U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a wanted sex offender from Gonzales, Texas near the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry on Monday evening.

David Mendoza-Sanchez, 23, was wanted on a sexual assault charge in Gonzalez, Texas. Monday, just after 8 p.m. Mendoza-Sanchez attempted to cross the border illegally, three miles north of the Paso Del Norte Port of Entry.

The agents initially questioned Mendoza-Sanchez and determined he had entered the U.S. illegally. He was placed under arrest and taken to the Border Patrol Processing Center where his fingerprints were entered into the Integrated Automated Fingerprinting Identification System (IAFIS).

IAFIS alerted agents that Mendoza-Sanchez was wanted on the sexual assault charge and he was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility where he is pending extradition by Gonzales County officials.
