Wanted man, arrested
Doña Ana County — A man, who Doña Ana County Sheriff’s investigators say, beat his girlfriend before leaving her at a Las Cruces emergency room was arrested Tuesday night. Just before 7 p.m., 35-year-old Federico Vacio was taken into custody without incident at his place of employment in Mesilla.
Sheriff’s investigators had obtained a nationwide extradition warrant for Vacio after his 29-year-old girlfriend reported that he held her against her will at her San Miguel home on the night of February 18, striking her with his fists and biting her on the torso. The woman’s nine-year-old daughter reportedly witnessed the incident.
During the altercation, the woman said Vacio also forced her head into a pillow until she reportedly passed out. Her clothes had been removed when she regained consciousness. The victim told investigators Vacio then dropped her and her daughter off at a Las Cruces-area hospital, where staff members called the police.
Investigators say Monday’s incident happened two weeks after Vacio was arrested and charged with battery against a household member against the same woman.
Upon his arrest Tuesday night, Vacio was transported to the Doña Ana County Detention Center where he is being held on a $75,000 cash bond. He is charged with second-degree kidnapping and battery against a household member.
