Movies on the lawn kicks off on the UTEP campus Thursday.

Last week, the summer movie series was canceled because of the bad weather.

So now, the university is making up for that cancelation by showing two movies this week.

Thursday's movie will be The Great and Powerful Oz and Friday's movie will be The Game Plan.

Both movies start at 8:30 p.m. on Glory Field and University Field.

Families are encouraged to bring their blankets and lawn chairs to enjoy the movies that will play on an inflatable 16-foot by 9-foot screen.

No alcohol or glass containers will be allowed. A movie combo will include a hot dog, small soda and popcorn for $5.

The rest of the movie schedule:

June 21 - Despicable Me

July 5 - National Treasure

July 12 - Wreck-It Ralph

July 19 - Harry and the Hendersons

July 26 - Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

August 2 - Brave

All movies are subject to change without prior notice.

Tax supported institutions should NOT be competing with private enterprise. You are destroying the motion picture industry (regardless of the degree) by unfairly competing with them. The industry cannot compete with FREE (?) entertainment. It is, of course, not free. I am paying for it and I resent it. The same goes for Museums and Libraries who show FREE movies.
