The Extreme Weather Task Force is trying to help El Pasoans beat the heat by handing out free fans and Wednesday El Paso Walmart’s joined the caused by donating 300 fans.

Last summer two El Pasoans died from heat stroke because of El Paso's weather. One of those deaths was because the woman didn't have an air conditioner.

"This is a great opportunity for us to get out and get involved with our community out there," said Kimberly Johnstun from Walmart.

Donations can be made to the task force by dropping off a fan to any El Paso Fire Station. Anyone needing a fan can call 211.

What is missing from this story is that even though the Extreme Weather Task Force has fans, it still takes too long for people to get them. Gracie Ortiz on camera comes across as a caring person when she is in fact far from that. She is more concerned about fans winding up for sale a swap meets then getting fans into homes of families who desperatly need them. Ask around and you will be saddened by the way Ortiz handles fan distribution during the summer and blankets during the winter.
