Virgin Galactic delays commercial spaceflights
Las Cruces, NM (KTSM) — If you want to take a flight into outer space, you're going to have to wait another year. Virgin Galactic now says it won't launch its first commercial space flight until next August at the earliest.
The company had once hoped to begin flying people into space by February of 2014, but several hurdles must still be cleared. The Federal Aviation Administration must first grant the company a license, and Virgin Galactic needs to conduct a successful test flight.
Virgin Galactic currently pays almost a million dollars a year to rent the Spaceport facility near Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.
