County Commissioner Race

In the runoff race to fill the commissioner's chair left open by accused drug runner Willie Gandara Junior, one candidate is speaking out about what he calls unethical behavior by his opponent.

Vincent Perez knocked on doors meeting Lower Valley residents face to face, hoping to gain voters and win the precinct 3 commissioner seat left open by Willie Gandara Junior, who resigned after his arrest.
Today Perez said his runoff opponent, State Rep Chente Quintanilla is unethical and uses campaign donations for personal benefit.

"It's against the law for candidates or office holders such as Mr. Quintanilla to use campaign donations for personal use.”

Perez says Quintanilla threw a $425 dinner party at Cattleman's Steakhouse and claimed it was a dinner for campaign volunteers.

“In reality a Facebook post by his daughter revealed that it was a birthday celebration for his wife," said Perez."Particularly right now with all the ethics and corruption scandals we have in el Paso , representative quintanilla needs to set a better example."

Angie Garcia, a Vincent Perez supporter, says voters are ready for change.

"Someone that's gonna be transparent, honest and is going to take the position for the good of the community and not for personal gain, " said Garcia.

We spoke to Quintanilla's as he attended the opening of the new Clint high school.

" It was my wife's birthday. I did pay for the volunteers meal out of campaign funds but for my wife and my meal I paid cash and I have the receipt to show," said Quintanilla. “ I'm kinda used to his dirty campaigning you know he's been doing it for a while. I mean he's been putting out brochures telling people you know things about myself but I work on the issues. I'm taking the high ground. I'm not gonna play the game of dirty politics with anybody."

A parent at the high school opening, has high hopes for Quintanilla.

"Maybe this is a rude awakening and he'll be the change that is needed," said Geralyn Norris.

Quintanilla is a double dipper who now wants to be a tripple dipper. My vote is for Perez. Why? Because Quintanilla did nothing as our State Representative. Can anyone name one thing that he has said he will do that will benefit the community if he is elected to commissioners court? All he says is that he will support what the County Judge does. A thinker for the people he is not. Time for Quintanilla to go!
