Vigil held for 16-year-old killed in NE shooting

EL PASO, TEXAS (KTSM) - The suspect in yesterday's murder in Northeast El Paso has been arrested.

According to El Paso Police, 17-year-old Moses Jack Popp is charged with the murder of 16-year-old Trevion Veal in an apartment complex parking lot on Wren St. on Monday

On Tuesday, family and friends met up to remember Veal with a makeshift memorial and candlelight vigil.

Veal's friends tell KTSM he went to Irvin High School, where he played basketball.

Police say both teens were involved in a drug deal when Veal was shot and died at the scene.

"His life was taken, unjustified. He was stubborn sometimes, but he always respected his grandmother's wishes," said Veal's great grandmother Yzlen Briscker.

EPPD said there were others involved, but have not released their names. They say there may be additional arrests in Veal's murder.
