Verdict pending in Herrera murder trial after closing arguments
Jurors were deliberating a verdict in the Michael Herrera murder trial Tuesday. Closing arguments were heard throughout Monday morning.
As we've reported, the 29-year-old is accused of murdering his then 39-year-old boyfriend, Cesar Torres.
Defense attorneys argue Herrera was acting in self defense because he was afraid the victim was going to sexually assault him. They also wanted the jury to consider Herrera's long history of mental illness.
The State argued Herrera knew what he was doing and used the victims alcohol and marijuana before leaving the scene.
If the jury comes back with a guilty verdict, the defendant could face 99 years in prison.
