NBC — Venezuela's national assembly voted for a new leader Saturday amid concerns about President Hugo Chavez's health.
Lawmakers re-elected incumbent Diosdado Cabello, an ally of Chavez. He is now considered the third most powerful government figure in Venezuela, after Chavez and Vice President Nicolas Maduro. Supporters of Chavez gathered outside the national assembly Saturday to support the leader who's still recovering from his fourth cancer surgery.
If Chavez steps down or dies, a new election would be organized within 30 days.
