Vargas May Serve 16 Years, Pending Judge's Decision
EL PASo — Tuesday was the scheduled sentencing day for the man convicted of causing a deadly drunk driving crash and killing two people and injuring two others.
Miguel Vargas was convicted last week on two counts of intoxicated manslaughter and two counts of intoxiced assault. The jury sentenced him to eight years in prison on both of the counts of intoxicated manslaughter.
Tuesday, Judge Bill Hicks will decide whether Vargas will serve the two eight-year sentences at the same time or back to back.
If he serves them consecutively, he could end up spending 16 years in prison.
