Vado residents evacuated from flooded homes

Some residents of Vado, New Mexico got a rude awakening last night when floodwaters started seeping into their homes, several homes in that community had to be evacuated early this morning and now the American Red Cross and other government agencies have stepped up to help.

Several families had to leave their homes early this morning because of the high water levels inside, most of them spent the day cleaning out their yards and getting their cars out of the mud, the American Red Cross in southwest New Mexico and Dona Ana County are offering displaced Vado residents a place to stay.

They are urging the community to make a contingency plan and to stay informed, one resident took us inside his home to see how the water went in and damaged his furniture, and he says it's the first time that something like this happens to him

"The storm was Pretty intense it took a toll on our neighborhood the water levels in my house alone reached near two inches it was to the point where rivers were running through our RV park my car has watermarks from the dirt and everything from the levels how bad floodwaters were hear and The area where I park" George Longmier said.

According to the American Red Cross New Mexico ranks very high with lighting strikes and deaths due to thunderstorms, they’re recommending to be prepared in case of more rain and to not hesitate to leave or ask for help if needed.
