EL PASO – Now that utilities are back up and running for most El Pasoans, there is talk of possibly suing El Paso Electric.
The Wall Street Journal reported that state authorities will launch an investigation into rolling blackouts that struck the state's electric grid last week. The city of El Paso will also start their own investigation into El Paso Electric, and whether they were negligent. However, not all city council members are jumping on the idea of suing the electric company.
“As far as suing the electric company, we haven't been briefed on that and quite frankly, we don't have all the facts yet,” city Rep. Steve Ortega said.
Rep. Ann Morgan Lilly stated, “If there's negligence, I am sure there has to be a lawsuit. I am hoping the city can partner with the electric company and come to some terms that this won't happen again, and make the necessary changes to their equipment.”
The city's investigation is expected to take months to complete.
